Your Representative in Salem
Peter has served as your voice in the Oregon House of Representatives since you first elected him in 2004. Following his first session in 2005, Peter's colleagues in the House Democratic Caucus elected him as their Assistant Democratic Leader where he helped to secure a Democratic majority in the House during the 2006 elections for the first time in over a decade.
In 2007, this new majority provided Oregon with its most productive legislative session in recent years. As chairman of the House Education Committee, Peter led a renewed commitment to our education system that had been missing for all too long. Following the 2007 legislative session, the House Majority Caucus once again chose to elect Peter to a leadership position as House Majority Whip.
In late 2008 Peter was appointed House Co-Chair of the budget-writing Joint Committee on Ways & Means by House Speaker Dave Hunt. During one of the more difficult economic climates in Oregon history, Peter has worked diligently with his colleagues in 2009-10 to balance the fiscal constraints facing Oregon and the rest of the nation with the need to keep intact those vital services all Oregonians rely upon. He looks forward to continuing this work on your behalf into 2011 and beyond.
